Geoff,

Wrongo (unless you believe taxonomists do not need to concern 
themselves with nomenclature). Subsequent misspellings do indeed have 
a role to play as far as the ICZN is concerned. The recent Code 
states that prevailing usage of a misspelling vs an original spelling 
allows the misspelling to become the name in use (see Art. 33.3.1).

A horrible change in my view but we'ze got to live with it .... for 
now. Thus  subsequent misspellings are not ALL "rubbish names".
