Apologies for the last post, but some of the information may have been
informative. I fall for the 'Reply' button trick on occasions. As I'd
planned a post anyway...

The TDWG Infrastructure Project (http://www.tdwg.org/activities/tip/) has
LSIDs as one of its priorities for 2007. As Rich said, the Project funded
two workshops to determine a strategy for Globally Unique Identifiers. One
outcome was the selection of LSIDs as the GUID of choice in bioinformatics.

Subsequently, we have written two introductory documents (LSIDs for
<http://www.tdwg.org/uploads/media/LSIDs_for_Biologists.pdf> Biologists and
LSID for  <http://www.tdwg.org/uploads/media/LSIDs_for_Managers.pdf>
Managers), an Applicability
<http://www.tdwg.org/uploads/media/TDWG_LSID_Applicability_Statement_11_10_2
006.doc> Statement, and generated a list of LSID resources
<http://www.tdwg.org/uploads/media/LSID_Resources.pdf> . The Project is
planning a demonstration application at the TDWG meeting
<http://www.tdwg.org/conference2007/> in September that shows the benefits
of LSIDs .

The Project is also in the process of providing funds to support the
following (LSID-related) projects

*

	An LSID resolution service for specimens (Kevin Richards)
*

	An LSID resolution service for TAPIR (Kevin Richards)
*

	An LSID resolution service for CATE (Ben Clark)
*

	An LSID implementation policy (Greg Whitbread)
*

	Enabling LSIDs and TCS in Species 2000 (Richard White)

and as the previous post mentioned, we are hoping to be able to support
ZooBank in the deployment of LSIDs.
